The monthly retiree news notice should be short, informative, and relevant. It should direct retirees to our website for more information. The News Flash is not the sole source for content
Publication of IRO News Flash will be sent to IRO members every other month beginning in January of each year. The exception is during Health Enrollment when IRO News Flash is published in September and October
The schedule to submit to the IRO News Flash Editor
- March: Article submissions are due February 25
- May: Article submissions are due April 25
- July: Article submissions are due June 25
- September: Article submissions are due August 25
- October: Article submissions are due September 25
- December: Article submissions are due November 25 (Unless Thanksgiving falls during that week, in which case Articles are due the Monday AFTER Thanksgiving).
NEWS FLASH EDITOR
The News Flash Editor will send all members an email reminder approximately one week before the deadline. Articles should be short and to the point. The author of the article will specify if the article is for only the Newsletter OR newsletter AND website.
Give each article a brief headline and a short introduction that will link to the posted article.
If the article is for both the Newsletter and the IRO Website
- Send a request to the website team to update or create a post or page on the website, Contact information and submission guidelines are shown on the Website Support Calendar page
- Send the article to the News Flash Editor with the link to the website embedded in the article’s title
- If the person submitting the article does not include a link
GRAPHICS
- You can submit one graphic for the article
- DO NOT insert photos within the text
- Attach photos to your email
- DO NOT crop the images
- Send in either .png or .jpg format
- Send graphics as a file attached to the email
ARTICLE
- DO NOT format articles; straight typing is much easier to work with.
- Bullets are acceptable
- DO NOT use abbreviations (IRO, GPTW, etc.) unless you have spelled it out in the first use within the article.
- Provide the links and email addresses within articles and check that they work correctly before submitting
- Submit as an attached Word document to the email
Life After Intel Articles

- After article is written, the interviewer and/or writer submits a copy to an editor for changes prior to layout.
- Article is then submitted to News Flash editor for layout with enough time to complete the layout before the 25th of the month submission deadline.
- Once layout is done, the News Flash editor returns the laid-out article to the interviewer/writer who obtains approval from the subject retiree.
- Upon approval, the final article (pdf) is sent to the monthly web support person to add to media library. Include the appropriate URL where it should be posted and the sentence that you want on this page. (See other articles on Life After Intel)
